Topic: Emergency Preparedness: At Home/At Work
Objectives: We have experienced firsthand tornados and severe weather events in Calhoun County that cause loss of property and significantly impacted ourselves, our families, and our workplaces. Learn how to better preparation to be ready when the next disaster occurs. We are fortunate to have FEMA offices in the county to guide us in the process.
Speaker Bio: Sam Norton is a Training Specialist Team Lead in the FEMA Incident Workforce Academy at FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness in Anniston, where he has worked since 2016. In that role, he manages and delivers professional development courses for FEMA’s incident management workforce.
Prior to joining FEMA, he worked as a management analyst and administrative officer for the Peace Corps at the agency’s headquarters in Washington, DC and post in Bamako, Mali. He has also taught English as a Foreign Language in Yemen and political science at the University of Alabama and Northern Virginia Community College. Sam has a Bachelor’s in English and Political Science from the University of Alabama, a Master’s in Political Science from the University of Alabama, and a Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University.
Sam is a native of Birmingham with roots in the Calhoun County-area. He currently resides in Jacksonville with wife, Angie, and sons, Sam (9) and James (2). In his free time, he does Taekwondo, plays golf, and spends most of his weekends working on his house and garden.
